Mais en même temps que parlait Ulmo,  Alors que les Ainur fixaient  Cette vision, elle disparut trop tôt,  Retirée de leur vue, et il leur semblait  Palper ce qu'alors ils n'avaient  Connu qu'en pensée : Obscurité et Sanglots.   
Or, ils s’étaient épris de la beauté  De cette vision, plongés dans l'exposition  
D’un Monde destiné à s'éveiller,  
Leurs esprits étaient en adoration  ;  Car l’histoire ne restait qu'allusion,  Et les cercles du temps ne s’étaient pas fermés  Lorsque la vision leur fut otée.

Les Ainur furent pris de peur  Sans comprendre encor les mots  Qui leur étaient adressés par leur créateur,  Et rempli de déshonneur fut Melko,  En même temps que d’un courroux blasphémateur.   
Puis Ilùvatar se leva  Dans toute sa splendeur et s’avança  
Hors des régions de démesure  Qu’il avait fait naître pour les Ainur  Et ceux-ci le suivirent en cet endroit.   
Quand ils arrivèrent dans le Vide,  
Eru dit : «Voyez votre musique !»  Et il leur livra une vision magique,  Leur donnant une vision limpide,  Alors qu’ils n’avaient que Ainulindale_2
